October 2018 Monthly Dinner Meeting

Topic: Managing Conflict – Can you use it to develop your team? What can you do to leverage it and improve your team dynamics?

This presentation will discuss a common obstacle that all managers struggle with that often affects their success as a Project Manager and the productivity of their teams. We will review current perceptions of conflict, research findings including the neuroscience surrounding conflict, and what constitutes effective conflict management. A number of useful tools and successful strategies will be presented for discussion and the speaker will demonstrate how conflict management can be leveraged to improve team dynamics.

About Judy Mavroleon

Judy MavroleonMs. Mavroleon is a Certified Executive Leadership Development Instructor/Facilitator and Coach with JM Impact Consulting LLC. She provides multiple-day Academy Leadership Excellence and Executive Coaching Courses and customized in-house leadership development programs in Arizona, California, and Hawaii. 

She has over 30 years of leadership and business management experience in numerous executive positions such as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Director of Finance, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Public Works for military training sites and higher education. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and is a Certified Business Continuity Planner (ABCP) with Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International.

She is a combat veteran and recently retired as a Colonel (O6) in the U.S. Army Reserves. Serving as the Brigade Task Force Deputy for the Iraqi Police Partnership Program (2005-06), Judy developed and implemented a countrywide readiness assessment tool for the Iraqi police stations and the training programs for the military and civilian police forces. During her second tour in Iraq (2006-07), she led the Interagency Stabilization Task Force Program for national reconstruction activities for the U.S. military and the U.S. Embassy-Iraq under the U.S. State Department. 

She has held leadership roles in Military Department Emergency Disaster Response Exercises and Defense Support of Civil Authorities Exercises. She co-authored “Antidote for Panic: Managing Business Continuity Projects Effectively” and has been a guest speaker at the Project Management Institute (PMI) Congress and various Region 7 PMI Chapters.

Ms. Mavroleon earned a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) concentrating on International Development and Business Consulting from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and has a B.A. in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
